Recognition of teacher certification is a somewhat misleading term, as it is often interpreted to mean that a teaching permit issued in one state is recognized unconditionally by another state. While most states provide reciprocal guidance, intergovernmental reciprocity is not automatic. Teachers must apply for a new licence if they wish to teach in a country where they are not currently licensed, and the teacher licensing service in a given state generally verifies applications for reciprocity for learning certificates on a case-by-case basis. Reciprocal teacher licenses allow teachers with a teaching license in one state to obtain a license in another state, provided they comply with state requirements. Recipient agreements allow states to work through variations in licensing systems to coordinate license transfers and fill vacancies with qualified candidates. Most countries have a policy to expand reciprocity for some teachers, but few states offer full reciprocity to all licensed teachers from other countries. Teachers applying for a licence under a “reciprocity/intermediate agreement” may consider applying for a temporary or temporary licence if they do not yet have the support of the IES. The best-known agreement for the mediation of reciprocity between states is by the National Association of State Directors of Education and Teacher Certifications (NASDTEC). The NASDTEC Interstate Agreement facilitates the process of receptive teacher certification, as compact agencies can verify a teacher`s licensing status in other countries. For example, Maryland issues three types of vocational education certificates, while neighbouring Virginia spends only two. The teaching of reciprocity between states guides how these licences are transferred between the two states. Answer: The NASDTEC Interstate Agreement is a set of agreements between different countries that recognize elements of the teacher licensing process from one state to another. For example, many countries evaluate all teacher tests you have taken for the licensing process of another state and may exclude you from additional tests if it turns out that these tests meet the requirements of the new state. It is important to understand that intergovernmental agreements are not “directly transferred” agreements. You must apply for a learning license based on your new status and have your registration information evaluated. If it turns out that your registration information meets the typical requirements of the new state, you will receive a new license. If this is not the case, you will be informed of the additional requirements. Massachusetts participates with each state and the District of Columbia through the National Association of State Directors of Teacher Certifications and Certifications (NASDTEC) Interstate Agreement to accept the state-recognized preparation program for educators or the equivalent of at least one license/certificate of origin and a three-year job under such a valid license/certificate over the past seven years. Please note that the intergovernmental agreement does not exempt applicants from the conditions of thought, examination and/or application for a licence.
